[Korean Content] Trap of 99.9% Disinfection_청결의 역습

2013.09.02

We clean our hands dozens of times a day with sterilization soap and carry hand sanitizers in our bags when going out. We also use anti-bacterial cutting boards, dishcloth and detergents.
We are fully prepared not to be infected by dirty germs.

But now, are we healthier?
We have too many biases about germs.
Actually, most germs are harmless and some are rather necessary for our health.
In fact, too much sanitation and public hygiene and overuse of antibiotics might make us humans weaker.

Modern society witnessed a drastic decrease in infectious diseases, but it saw sharp increases in ‘immunopathy’ such as atopy, asthma and other allergic diseases.
Recently, germs are called “the second gene” of the human body in the academic world.
If it is true, we are making efforts to block changeable genes, rather than protecting them. It is time to stop attacking germs and start understanding them.
